Mississippi State took an important step in addressing its lack of depth in the post by adding Miami transfer Michael Nwoko in the transfer portal.

Nwoko appeared in 28 games as a freshman for the Hurricanes but made just one start, averaging 2.6 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. He did have an impressive eight-point, seven-rebound performance against Duke late in the season.
Born in Houston, Nwoko spent his first two years of high school in Connecticut but did not play due to injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic. He attended The Burlington School in North Carolina as a junior, winning a state championship there, then graduated from Prolific Prep, a basketball academy in Napa, Calif.
The 6-foot, 10-inch Nwoko had no shortage of offers, choosing Miami over the likes of Georgia Tech, Northwestern, UCLA and Vanderbilt. He could be primed for a big role right away with the Bulldogs now that Tolu Smith and Jimmy Bell Jr. are out of eligibility and KeShawn Murphy is currently in the portal.
Nwoko is the second player head coach Chris Jans and company have added in the portal this offseason, joining former Penn State guard Kanye Clary.
