STARKVILLE — Mississippi State softball on Thursday announced the transfer of UCLA two-way player Lexi Sosa.
“This next journey at MSU is not just a dream come true for me, but this next journey is a shared accomplishment with my mom, family and the incredible individuals I’ve met along the way,” Sosa said in Thursday’s press release. “I can’t wait to join the party in Starkville.”
Sosa, who was part of two College World Series rosters with the Bruins, is a career .357 hitter with a sub–1.60 ERA as a pitcher.
“We are thrilled to add a veteran two-way player like Lexi to our bullpen and roster,” head coach Samantha Ricketts said in Thursday’s press release. “She brings WCWS experience and added depth to our offense and our pitching staff. We are looking forward to her getting settled in with us in StarkVegas.”
She comes to Starkville with two years of eligibility remaining and relatively untapped potential. At the plate, she’s had just 14 at-bats in three years at UCLA, redshirting in 2023.
In the circle, she’s appeared in just 19 total games, throwing 48.2 innings in her career. That does include throwing the 18th perfect game in Bruins history in her freshman year in 2020.
Sosa’s 2020 season, her most successful to date, was cut short due to the Covid pandemic, but in nine games pitched, she was 4-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 28.2 innings pitched, recording three shutouts, including her perfect game.
“From the incredible academic and athletics staff to the astonishing legacy that this MSU program has built, I knew that being a Bulldog would not only equip me as an athlete, but I would be given the chance to become the best version of myself on and off the field,” Sosa said.
