OXFORD – Following a massive jump in the D1Baseball poll, Ole Miss’ stars are getting their due for an impressive week.
Rebels senior outfielder Tristan Bissetta was named SEC Co-Player of the Week, while sophomore starting pitcher Cade Townsend was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The other Co-Pitcher of the Week is Mississippi State’s Duke Stone.
Bissetta, a first-year transfer from Clemson, hit four home runs and drove in 10 runs in four games this week for the Rebels (29-12, 10-8 SEC), who rose to No. 17 in the latest poll after sitting at No. 25 a week ago. Ole Miss defeated No. 18 Southern Miss on Tuesday and took two of three at Tennessee, the Rebels’ third straight SEC series win. Ole Miss has won 10 of its last 12 games overall.
Bissetta, who has home runs in five straight games overall, hit a grand slam in Saturday’s series clincher against the Volunteers, his second ninth-inning grand slam of the season. He leads the Rebels with a .344 average, 19 home runs and 50 RBIs. Bissetta split player of the week honors with Georgia’s Daniel Jackson.
Townsend took a perfect game into the fifth inning and a no-hitter into the sixth of Saturday’s matchup against Tennessee and allowed one hit in six scoreless innings. He struck out seven batters and walked two. Townsend is 4-1 this season and leads Rebels starters with a 1.73 ERA. His ERA is second in the SEC behind only Florida’s Aidan King (1.71) and ranks 12th nationally.
Townsend is the first Ole Miss pitcher to win the award since Gunnar Hoglund in 2021.
Stone, a sophomore, had the best start of his career on Saturday at South Carolina. He had a career-high 12 strikeouts over six shutout innings, allowed five hits and walked three as MSU won 9-0. Stone is now 6-1 on the season with a 3.78 ERA.
