STARKVILLE — Following a season where Starkville baseball failed to reach the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A playoffs, head coach Luke Adkins was relieved of his duties as head coach of the program on Friday, the school confirmed.
Adkins just finished his fifth season as head coach of the Yellow Jackets, guiding the team to a 13-9 overall record and 3-6 record in Region 1 play.
“The district is making a change for the next school year,” said Haley Montgomery, Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District director of communications. “Coach Adkins is still on our staff through the end of this year. … The district has decided to go in a different direction. We’re very grateful for Coach Adkins. We’re thankful for his time here as part of Jacket family.”
Adkins told The Dispatch he appreciates his time leading the program.
“I feel really good about my tenure at Starkville,” Adkins said. “We competed at the highest level in the state and had a ton of success. We had some big wins against some of the elite programs in the state. Was able to help a lot of kids move on to the next level.”
