NEW HOPE — The Caledonia High School baseball team beat New Hope 6-4 in Thursday’s game in New Hope.
Josh Pitts drove in a run with a double in the first inning, and Gavin Holloman had a sacrifice fly in a two-run third for Caledonia (5-0).
Carson Elliott walked to force in a run in the fifth inning, and John Lewis was hit by a pitch to force in another.
Elliott had a sacrifice fly in the sixth for Caledonia. Jacob Humbers had a single and scored two runs for the Cavs.
Loren Cox got the win on the mound for Caledonia, and Gavin Holloman earned the save.
For New Hope, Brant Smith scored in the second, and Adam Adair scored in the third. The Trojans added two runs in the sixth as Gates Gerhart and Adair were hit by pitches with the bases loaded.
New Hope finished the game with just two hits.
The Trojans will play at Caledonia at 6 p.m. Friday.
East Webster 11, New Hope 5
NEW HOPE — New Hope softball fell 11-5 to East Webster in Thursday’s home game.
The Wolverines took the lead with a five-run fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie. New Hope responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but East Webster added two in the sixth and two in the seventh to stretch the lead.
Zoe Goodman drove in two runs for the Trojans. Adi Dueitt pitched a complete game for New Hope.
Starkville 25, Louisville 2, three innings
STARKVILLE — Starkville High School scored 17 runs in the first inning of Thursday’s home game against Louisville and added two in the second to beat the Wildcats 25-2 on the run rule in three innings.
Roniyah Campbell had two hits and five RBIs for the Yellow Jackets. Aubree Montgomery had a hit and drove in four runs, while Casey Meador drove in two runs.
Olivia Mattison struck out two in two innings, and Brianne Locke struck out two in one inning.
Heritage Academy 5, Copiah Academy 2
Caleb Hall drove in two runs as the Heritage Academy baseball team beat Copiah Academy 5-2 on Thursday in Columbus.
Hall had a game-high two hits for the Patriots, and Aaron Downs walked twice.
Cole Ketchum struck out seven in four innings, and Rhett Ketchum had five strikeouts in three innings.
Heritage Academy scored three runs in the first inning and two in the third. Copiah had a run in the fourth inning and one in the sixth.
Hartfield Academy 14, Starkville 0, five innings
FLOWOOD — Starkville High lost 14-0 to Hartfield Academy in Thursday’s road game on the run rule in five innings.
The Yellow Jackets had just one hit in the contest.
Mason Thurlow pitched 2.2 innings with four strikeouts, and Ethan Pulliam had a strikeout in 1.1 innings on the mound.
Hartfield scored in every inning with three runs in the first, seven in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth.
Calhoun Academy 10, Columbus Christian Academy 0
CALHOUN CITY — Columbus Christian Academy lost Thursday’s season opener at Calhoun Academy, 10-0.
Luke Phillips had the Rams’ lone hit in the first inning. He pitched 2.2 innings and struck out four.
Caleb Farlow had two strikeouts in two innings on the mound.
Daniel Pate and John James Butler were hit by a pitch and reached base for the Rams.
Pickens Academy (Ala.) 16, Restoration Academy (Ala.) 2, two innings
FAIRFIELD, Ala. — Cole Gibson had a double and three RBIs to lead Pickens Academy (Alabama) in a 16-2 road win over Restoration Academy (Alabama) in just two innings Thursday.
Bodhi Parham was 2 for 2 with a triple and two RBI as Pickens scored 11 runs in the first inning and five in the second. Drake Lowery was 2 for 2 and drove in a run.
Sawyer Perrigin, Aidan Johnson, Hayden Dyer, Lane Lowry and Clay More all had RBIs for Pickens. Johnson struck out two in his only inning on the mound, giving up one hit, two walks and two runs.
