Community advocate responds to article
Thanks for the article in Sunday’s paper. While I thought the article was intelligent, nuanced, and a good read, it seems reading comprehension is not a common ability, even at the mayor’s office. (I particularly enjoyed the subtitle “Bitter” [as seen by the mayor’s regime] or “Better” [as seen by the people that still care about the long term success of this city.] I was contacted by people that thought the quoted bits from the mayor’s office were statements of fact rather than suppositions and propaganda. I was concerned that the statement from the mayor’s office appeared published without challenge.
(Monday), the mayor’s office published its full response, I found that action a bit unprofessional, particularly that innocent parties were not redacted. For my words that may cause offence to the innocent parties, I apologize. The mayor’s office was not a party to the conversation that preceded the email. It may now appear that the regime of this mayor cares for nobody but themselves and the acts of caring, e.g. giving away things like turkeys, free lunches, picking up litter, and such are just that, acts performed for the camera.
Columbus is not in “financial good standing” as far as anyone with the ability to understand finances can tell. For this regime to make such a representation is BOLD. I call for truth, transparency, and audited financial statements. Look at your pothole-filled streets, look at the underfunded and understaffed police and fire departments. If Columbus were in financial good standing would this be the indicators?
I take this opportunity to also call for the citizens of Columbus to once again care for and believe in a better community. Columbus deserves better!
