Mayor appreciates those helping
As Mayor, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our first responders for the awesome job that they are doing protecting and serving our citizens of Columbus during this pandemic crisis. Nancy Carpenter, the Board of Directors and staff of Visit Columbus have worked alongside the Police Department, Fire Department and other first responders through many special events to show appreciation to them during this unprecedented time in our city and nation. Aaron Sanders and Sweet Peppers Deli assisted with this effort in providing a meal for all shifts.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the medical community that continues to care for Columbus around the clock. These professionals continue to provide for our community in these difficult times.
I appreciate Amy Bogue of the Allegro Clinics, Dr. James Woodard, of the Allegro Clinic, and Glenda Richardson of our Community Outreach Department for participating in a Town Hall meeting with us on social media last week to discuss this threat from a medical view. We have set up a church directory to list churches that are streaming their services. Go to worshipcolumbusms.org to share with others area services that are available on the Internet.
I want to thank our citizens for following City guidelines and Governor Tate Reeves’ Stay in Place order that went into effect April 3, 2020 @ 5:00 pm, and will continue until April 20, 2020. COVID-19 is a serious infectious disease. I am encouraging all of our citizens to take social distancing seriously.
The Coronavirus does not discriminate between age, race, religion, sex or wealth. The spread of Coronavirus is not limited to major metropolitan areas. COVID-19 is here and the threat of uncontrolled spread is real.
