Final 2020 thoughts on Trump
As bad as 2020 has been as a year, Donald Trump has been an even worse president, in my view, leaving damage behind that will be evident far longer even than the damage done by COVID-19.
President Trump’s willful but inept leadership has dramatically increased the damage we all suffer – and will continue to suffer – from this virus; we will likely never know just how much. Yesterday’s death toll, in case you missed it, was 3,903, or 1.3-times 9/11’s. We now have a cumulative total of approximately 341,000 with another 100,000 expected in January. Among the richer countries, only the United Kingdom is experiencing a higher per capita death rate than the United States and we will likely overtake them once the more infectious strain they are already dealing with there spreads more widely in our country.
The President has left the golf course in Florida and is now headed back to the capitol early but not to redouble his efforts to combat the virus. No, that’s the states’ problem in his mind. Instead, he is returning early to continue his ridiculous coup attempt, still backed by no justifying evidence whatsoever. And we have at least one less than scrupulous senator to thank for the continuation of this farce. Get involved with Congress to push the $2,000 checks you claim you want? Push for more aggressive vaccination efforts to compensate for the woeful underperformance by your team? No, that’s somebody else’s problem, too.
If you were not already convinced that Donald Trump is incompetent at being president how could you not be now? The next three weeks could not possibly go by fast enough for me. I would much rather be saying goodbye to him tonight than to 2020.
