In this together
Would you not agree we are living in perilous times? The coronavirus has broadsided the entire world. Industry and businesses large and small have closed. A stay at home order has been issued by local and state government except for necessary movement for health and welfare such as pharmacy and groceries.
The one scary thing about this shutdown is church’s closures. I know the “church” is not the building, but the people. I fully understand the reason for this, but I see how easy it is to lose some of our basic rights. There are those that tried to close gun dealers down, but want to keep abortion clinics open. Drive in worship services in Greenville are illegal, but drive in liquor stores are OK. There are those in government that have no problem in oppressing our basic rights. We are on a slippery slope, so we need to be careful and watch our government.
On one hand we have seen “models” of the epidemic from the academic scholars predicting “Armageddon.” On the other hand, we see how wrong they were. Who do we believe? The present administration has dealt with this pandemic with what information they have been given. We are in uncharted waters with more unknowns than known facts. I hope we can agree that on one thing: We are all Americans and each of us can do our part. Each day we are finding out some positive things. America has the greatest medical research team in the world. Finger pointing, accusations and half truths do not solve anything. Each of us has a part to play. There are those that are using this crisis to change this country not for good, but for control. Ronald Reagan said, “Free people, worthy of freedom and determined not only to remain so but to help others gain their freedom as well.” If you believe in prayer, this is a good time to pray for our country and each other. Together we can beat this.
