Hazard mitigation and city’s project manager
I’ll say one thing about our fair city, we have a lot of over seeing the over seers. It seems to me that with our cash or lack thereof, the city would be very careful about the monies spent. We pay $90,000 per year plus a percentage of all city contracts to oversee city contracts to J5. And now $92 per hour for doing the paperwork for FEMA tornado mitigation and now mitigation for flood damage grants. This would be maybe OK, if Columbus was flush with dollars. What am I missing? I live in a flood-prone area and the Columbus Public Works Department doesn’t even maintain the drainage ditches. This applies to many parts of our city. Maybe with this grant of $600,000 and the city’s $200,000 part, with J5 over seeing the over seers, progress can be made. The over seeing of the Amphitheater and new fire station has gone great? If this grant comes to fruition will that mean something will be done to the flooding of the Amphitheater and soccer complex? I’m totally confused about applying for grants, then paying the city’s part from city funds and we can’t fully fund or staff our “First Responders.” Back to the $92 hourly fee Mr. Dillon is getting: Is the work done on his off time? At $92 an hour with a $10,000 limit, that’s only 108.69 hours. How many hours was spent on the tornado mitigation? For years transparency has been missing in the city’s operation. On the bright side, the Harvey’s roundabout is almost complete, flowers and shrubs are tended to in some areas. On the down side, crime/shootings are on the rise, infrastructure is crumbling, real estate values are dropping, people are leaving the city, businesses closing. How many out there would join “A Better Columbus” movement? Columbus can change, but it needs the help of concerned citizens. Are you one??
