Feels medical debts should be prioritized
I am always amazed at the logic or the lack of logic some people have. I read the Sunday paper pertaining to the uninsured and corona. I saw where a 30 year old student has $30,000 in student loans to pay as well as $10,000 in medical bills. I might could have some sympathy for her if she had not acknowledged that she had just returned from a cruise to Progreso and Cozumel. We can’t pay our medical bills or student debt but we can take a cruise. Do you know who else has student loans that have to be paid? That would be doctors and nurses. How do they pay their bills if you don’t pay what you owe them? It seems most people don’t think they should have to pay these bills and then fuss when it goes to collection. I agree that some of the fees are very high, but you get what you pay for. Part of the reason for the higher rates are the debts that have to be written off.
My wife and I pay around $1,200 per month for our insurance with a $5,000 deductible for a total of $19,400 out of pocket. We did not go on a cruise last year, and it is not looking too promising this year either. I can tell you our insurance is paid though. It is called priorities.
Please don’t think I am being cruel to the uninsured, I am not. I know a lot of people don’t make enough money to pay the sky high premiums, and we have been blessed to be able to do so. This is all worse with Obamacare. The more government intervention, the more the costs. If you think single payer and socialism will be less expensive think again. You will not be able to afford your taxes, cruises or other luxuries.
