Sees need for better budgeting from city
Kerry Blalock keeps my eyes open. Columbus seems to have no money, but keeps building things of doubtful usefulness. The roundabout is, to my mind, a complete boondoggle, akin to the People Mover of Detroit that went nowhere to the tune of billions of dollars. Studies show that roundabouts reduce fatal accidents slightly, but increase minor accidents tremendously.
Mr. Blalock noticed litter everywhere. I am told that roadside litter is called “Mississippi recycling.” The City Council will always be hard pressed to deal with that. We citizens need to learn to care more for our city.
I have dozens of photos of sidewalks in dangerous disrepair. I like to walk the city, but I see little of it because my eyes are always at my feet. Vast stretches of roadway have no sidewalks at all.
I see many bicyclists, but no bicycle paths. These riders are braver than I. My bicycle stays locked up.
I think it is suggestive that the most imposing building in Columbus is a tinted glass monstrosity housing J5.
Perhaps the City Council can rethink some priorities. People administering a city with the resources of Columbus should understand real needs and real budgeting.
