Donate blood
Almost a million people each year die of hemorrhagic fever (they bleed to death) because there is no blood on hand to save them. Less than three percent of the eligible donors in the U.S. donate blood. I see endless drives to feed the hungry. There should be such worthy programs — but doing so costs money. Donating blood costs nothing but time and a tiny sensory shock. It costs us nothing. We do not have a significant fraction of the blood we need. The next time you see a blood drive announced, step up. Lives are at stake. And it costs you nothing.
