As another school year begins, it is the perfect time to spotlight one of Mississippi’s most inspiring academic events: the C Spire Foundation Mississippi Spelling Bee. This annual competition does far more than celebrate spelling—it uplifts academic excellence and encourages lifelong skills that benefit students far beyond the stage.
Spelling bees promote literacy, focus, and confidence. They challenge students to expand their vocabulary, master language patterns, and think critically under pressure. The discipline it takes to prepare for a spelling bee fosters strong study habits and perseverance—skills that support success in all areas of life, from academics to career paths.
The Mississippi Spelling Bee has been held on the MUW campus and partnered with MSMS for four years. We want to continue that tradition and continue with the Friendly City welcoming spellers and their families for the Bee weekend each March.
Thanks to the support of individuals and local organizations like The Commercial Dispatch, Rotary Club of Columbus, International Paper, and Bloomers Nursery, Mississippi students from public, private, and homeschools are given a platform to showcase their talents, represent their schools, and be recognized state and nationally for their hard work. We welcome business or club sponsorships beginning at $250. Sponsorships are recognized in event programs, announcements, and media coverage.
To continue this nationally recognized competition, we are reaching out to ask for your support in making this event a continued success. Your contribution will help cover the costs of prizes, travel, certificates, trophies, and medallions for participants and winners. Every gift makes a difference and is deeply appreciated. Donations can be made directly to Edward Jones at 100 5th St. South, Columbus, MS 39701 or deposited to the Mississippi Spelling Bee at any BankFirst. All contributions are tax-deductible.
Spelling Bees will take place across the state beginning this fall, and the state competition will be on Saturday, March 28, 2026, on the Mississippi for Women campus. We would love to count you among our community of supporters.
Please support the Mississippi Spelling Bee, where the power of words becomes the foundation for student growth and future success.
