I just learned that our Republican friends, as part of the 870 pages of the One Big Beautiful Bill, have stripped nursing of its professional status. Nursing students will henceforth be limited to the Grad Plus loans available to liberal arts majors, not the higher limits offered to doctors or lawyers. This will have a significant impact on our W graduates hoping to become nurse practitioners—the ones with masters and doctorates who can prescribe drugs. I think that the decision was based on the assumption that most nursing students are women.
If any woman should object, as our illustrious president would say, “Quiet, piggy.”
