After prayerful consideration, I have indeed decided to return to the campaign trail. It would be my honor to serve as your Representative for Mississippi House District 37.
I know it’s hard to stay positive with gas prices and inflation as they are. But despite all that, Mississippi continues to add jobs and to enjoy a surprisingly low unemployment rate. Our state recently won a Silver Shovel for exciting economic developments, and I would like to see more big announcements here in the Golden Triangle.
As such, transparency of government will continue to be a big tenet of my platform. To move forward it is imperative that we properly oversee and manage our resources. I will propose and support legislation to increase accountability among public officials and their entities. Under such law, counties and municipalities who suffer a breach in their finances would never have to “vote” on whether or not to allow a forensic audit. Certain occurrences of embezzlement, fraud, or contract malfeasance would automatically trigger an independent financial investigation. Local leaders would be legally bound to comply. Our future prosperity will be preserved through proper checks and balances–tactical measures that prevent exciting opportunities from passing us by.
And speaking of opportunities, my campaign will also be taking a strong look at education. Four-year degrees, as beneficial as they are, do not have the same return they once did. Trade school graduates are now finding quicker employment, at a greater rate of pay, with far less student debt. No two kids are the same. As such we need to change our college prep emphasis in a way that helps all young people make prudent and productive choices.
We are a beautiful state. We are a freedom-loving state. We value law and order. We offer our prayers to God and our blessings upon human life. There is no place I would rather live.
This announcement comes under the shadow of a tremendous loss. Lynn Wright was a champion both on and off the field. He was in fact a man who created champions. He was greatly loved, and for good reason. I will never be Lynn Wright, nor will I try to be. But such as I have I offer up for public service, to help our state be the best it can be for the next generation.
