Currently we are passing through a restless time, which humans can’t think of. The following are a few examples of catastrophic wars, civil wars, and terrorisms around the world:
- Nearly 1,000 days of a deadly war between Ukraine and Russia. The war is now widening. North Korean troops are joining with Russian forces. The U.S. is indirectly joined in this conflict by helping Ukraine.
- Israel-Hamas war was sparked in October 2023 and continues to affect many neighboring countries with an estimated death toll of more than 50,000 humans. Ironically, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back more than a century. However, this time it appears a devastating killing spree of innocent humans. Once again, the U.S. is a partner with Israel in supplying weapons to kill and destroy infrastructure.
- For almost four months there has been an every day killing spree because of the civil war in Bangladesh. It’s a war within, indiscriminate killing of people including innocent minorities and the destruction of residences, factories, temples and infrastructure. It is continuing unabated.
- Seemingly a never-ending Myanmar civil war. It’s a war between Myanmar military junta and freedom fighters of the Rakhine state of Myanmar. As a result, thousands of Rohingya refugees took shelter in Bangladesh.
- A civil war in Syria arose long back.
- A civil war in Ethiopia and Eritrea.
- Terrorist insurgency in Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia, Burkina Faso, Mali, DR Congo and Afghanistan because of Taliban rule.
- Drug war in Mexico, an extraordinarily beautiful Hispanic country is not shining due to the drug mafia, though it is diminishing slowly.
In fact, almost one sixth of the countries of the world are in some sort of war. What are the consequences of those conflicts?
Simply, the consequence is the untimely death of precious humans. Unless it is in one’s family, nobody can think of the unbearable pain for the surviving members of the family!
This happens all because of the dirty politics of political leaders and the crazy wishes of the big powers.
The penultimate outcome of these situations includes death and destruction of people’s hope for the future.
True happiness is fading away. While we are steadily progressing in our endeavors in sciences and technologies, why are we not improving our attitude towards human-to-human relationship? We are not in the era of capitalist and communist conflicts.
Are we not super civilized people? History revealed the earliest civilizations developed around 4,000 BC in modern-day Iraq, Egypt, India, China, Peru and Mexico. Six thousand years later, we humans, the most intelligent species of all living beings, are still fighting amongst ourselves.
Maybe that is why Albert Einstein was skeptical regarding our civilization when he said, “Not until the creation and maintenance of decent conditions of life for all people are recognized and accepted as a common obligation of all people and all countries – not until then shall we, with a certain degree of justification, be able to speak of humankind as civilized.”
P.S. – In my last article of ‘True happiness”, I made a mistake in citing a poet’s name. It should be Sukanta Bhattacharya and not Jibanananda Das.
