It is very much true. Something is always happening. Either by nature or by humans.
Recently something happened by nature, such as a solar eclipse. What a scientific achievement by scientists to forecast everything exactly. Weather scientists can also predict heavy rain, floods, storms, tornadoes or Tsunamis very accurately. That saves lives. But when a country attacks another country or a shooter starts killing others for no reason. There is no accurate prediction.
First, Israel killed Iranian embassy people in Damascus, Syria all of a sudden. Iran then did a massive attack with drones and missiles to the land of Israel, spending billions of dollars. Israel did spend Billions of Dollars to protect their land. Finally, Israel also practiced sending drones to Iran with no casualties.
Think about it: so many hungry people could have food if you diverted that money to humanitarian aid instead of fighting for no reason.
Who would have dreamt that Dubai – a desert rich city in the Middle East – had undergone flood water! Unbelievable! It happened because of incessant rain. Is it a climate impact?
The U.S. is a country where gun shooting is a common occurrence in our everyday lives. And there is always the capture of the shooter, or he is killed or dies a self-inflicted death. However, I was amazed to read a news story that parents of one recent shooter were given a 10 to 15 year jail term by the court. The main reason is that guns were not properly taken care of at home.
In fact, human-made catastrophes are more dangerous than natural phenomena. It is true humans are the best sociable animals, and I am sure humans may not have all the animal instincts. Humans should not be enraged at our fellow humans and kill ultimately. But it happens. Probably, that’s why we have police forces, justice departments and other security systems.
According to the dictionary, the word “retire” means to conclude one’s professional career. Teaching is my professional career. I always thought if I can teach, I will. What will I be doing after retirement? How do I spend my time? One of my colleagues once told me, “While I can still run, I should retire.” I am also thinking about retiring soon.
However, writing is my passion, I will continue to write for The Dispatch and in Bengali to my native country. I am not sure how good I am, but I can tell you I have my unique imagination and that’s what I try always to put in writing.
Time flies. In mid-2025 I am going to quit my professional job. I would be very happy if I could reach 80 in my retired life. I am not very active in social media, especially Facebook. However, a couple of days back my wife and youngest daughter persuaded me to be active on Facebook. I just made a public post, which I am translating here:
Every day in the morning I get up from bed and have a cup of black coffee and tell myself I am breathing. I listen to the extraordinary music of birds around. After half an hour, walk in our front-yard and smell the pink roses, see the moving cars or people walking, feel the freshness of our environment. Hey my dear friend, I am still doing fine.
