COLUMBUS — William DeForrest “Big D” or “Fig” Smith, 55, died Feb. 22, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Shiloh Full Gospel M.B. Church, with Roderick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul M.B. Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Friday at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 14, 1970, in Columbus, to Gwendolyn Walker and the late Charlie Lee Smith Sr. He was a 1988 graduate of Motley High School and was formerly employed with Hydrovac and as a self-employed independent contractor. He was a member of Zion Gate M.B. Church.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Lee Smith Jr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Renee Michelle Moody Smith; step-mother, Annie Ruth Smith of Columbus; children, Roderick Smith, DeAndre Smith and Jordan Smith, all of Columbus, Jaylon Smith of Killen, Texas, and Korsheunta Green of Houston; step-children, Timothy Thomas of Orlando, Florida, La’Porsha McCarter and Madion Moody, both of Columbus; siblings, Ruth Smith-Wood of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Minnie Smith Crenshaw of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kimberly Sanders of Olive Branch, DuJuania Deloatch of Schertz, Texas, Joseph Smith and Randy Hill, both of Columbus; and 18 grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Jimmy Clark, Eric Crawford Sr., Antijawan Jones, Roger Sanders, Nate Smith, Orlando Smith, Sherman Smith, Torrance Young and Undra Williams.
