William Rowzee, Jr.

After a short illness with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, William Robert “Bill” Rowzee, Jr., 68, of Columbus, Mississippi, died at MD Anderson, Houston, Texas, with his wife and daughter by his side. A memorial service will be held March 30, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, Mississippi Bill was born too late William R. Rowzee, Sr. and Donna Ruth Skelton, in Union, Mississippi. Bill graduated from Decatur High School in 1968, East Central Community College in 1970, both in Decatur, Mississippi and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1973. Bill loved his Mississippi State Bulldogs, football, basketball (both men and women) and baseball. Bill enjoyed his work life as a purchasing manager at Omnova Solutions (formerly General Tire and Rubber/GenCorp/Diveritech General) for 38 years. Many life long friendships were made with other Omnova employees. Hobbies that Bill enjoyed were gardening, shelling on the beach, scuba diving and playing with his dogs, Penny and Buck. Some of the best times were spent with daughter, Katie. They enjoyed Mississippi State ball games together, even going to the College World Series in 2018. Some great family times were spent at Pensacola Beach and Seacrest, Florida. Bill was a life long member of the Decatur Methodist Church in Decatur, Mississippi. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert Rowzee, Sr. and Donna Ruth Skelton Rowzee. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Myra Elrod Rowzee of Columbus, Mississippi; daughter, Katherine Megan Rowzee of Oxford, Mississippi; sister, Donna Sue Rowzee Tinsley of Franklin, Tennessee; nephews, Terry Robert Tinsley (Rebecca) of Gainesville, Virginia and Kirk Martin Tinsley (Lina) of Franklin, Tennessee; great nieces and great nephews and numerous cousins. We would also like to include Bill’s Omnova family, Betty Mordecai, Patsy Robertson, Mary Fowler, James Hawkins, Jerry Mitchener, Diane Gray and all Omnova employees. Also leaving behind his furbabies, Rory, Penny and Buckaroo, with a special thank you to Best Friends Animal Hospital for the care you’ve given our furbabies. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. John Whitecar and the staff at Cancer Center and the nurses and hospitalist on the Third Floor of Baptist Memorial Hospital for all the care you provided for our husband and father. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, techs and family support group at MD Anderson, Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to be made to Cancer Research.
