Mr. O’Mary was born on September 4, 1958, in Vernon, Alabama, to the late William H. O’Mary, Sr. and Bobbie Ann O’Mary. He was a Christian man and a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Caledonia, MS. Mr. O’Mary was known as “Billy O” around town. To know him was to love him. If you didn’t get the chance to really get to know him, you missed out on knowing a great guy. He was very athletic. He ran track, played baseball, and football. After graduating from high school and going to work full-time, the love of sports still tugged at his heart. Therefore, he continued to play park and church softball.
Billy O had a big heart and loved helping and serving others. He served as a member of the District 1 Volunteer Fire Department and as an emergency medical technician for nearly 40 years. Billy worked for the forestry division of Weyerhaeuser before he went to work for Beloit Manhattan. Which later became Metso and then Valmet. He worked here for over 39 years in several positions, until moving to quality inspection. It was during this time in 2003 he met his wife, Theresa though a colleague. They would go on to enjoy 24 years and 3 months of loving life together. He loved to travel, go to ballgames, watch any type of car race, concerts, plays, and just be at home enjoying family time.
Before retirement, he enjoyed working as a bailiff at the Caledonia election precinct in Lowndes County. After retirement, he worked as a bailiff for the Lowndes County Courthouse. He loved this, and he often said this was his dream job. It goes without saying that he loved Alabama football, NASCAR, hunting, and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Mr. O’Mary is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jessie Lockhart and Ted Lockhart; and his brother, Joe Earl O’Mary.
Mr. O’Mary is survived by his wife, Theresa Hendrix-O’Mary of Columbus, MS; two sons, Jacob (Kris) Grijalva of Milsap, Texas, and Lane Hendrix of Caledonia; and one daughter, Lauren Hendrix of Caledonia; grandchildren, Zandyr Walker, John Thomas (J.T.)
