STARKVILLE — Verlean M. “Verl” Hughes, 74, died July 2, 2025, at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Hairston and Hairston Funeral Home Chapel, with Eucluck Gray officiating. Burial will follow at New Light Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 1-5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Hairston and Hairston Funeral Homes of Starkville is in charge of arrangements. 

Mrs. Hughes was born July 2, 1951, in Starkville, to the late Earnest and Alice Brown. She attended school in Starkville and Chicago, Illinois, and was formerly employed in the hotel hospitality industry at Marriott Corporation.

She is survived by her brothers, Norris Motton, Theodore Brown and Frederick Brown.
