COLUMBUS — Tommie Witherspoon, 84, died Dec. 29, 2014, at Vineyard Court Nursing Home. Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Piney Grove MB Church with the Rev. Bobby James officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation is today from noon-6 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus. Mr. Witherspoon was born in Lowndes County on April. 11, 1930, to the late Chandler Witherspoon and Betty Witherspoon. He was a member of Mt. Ary MB Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie B. Williams Witherspoon; children, Tommy Witherspoon Jr. and Rose Matt; and eight siblings. He is survived by children, Anthony Claborn of Columbus, Ruby Witherspoon, Dorothy Claborn, Eddie Claborn and Eric Claborn, all of New York, Duane Witherspoon of Akron, Ohio, and Thomasine Evans of Warren, Ohio; siblings, Johnnie Witherspoon, Betty Lou Eddins, Mariah Brown, Martha Washington and Carrie Summerville, all of Columbus, Jennie Johnson of New York and Ruthie Mae Moore of Akron; 36 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren.
