COLUMBUS — Sylvester Ellis Jr., 85, died June 16, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Zion Gate M.B. Church, with James A. Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 1-5 p.m. Friday at Lee-Sykes Funeral Home. Lee-Sykes Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ellis was born Oct. 18, 1939, in Columbus, to the late Sylvester Ellis Sr. and Lula Mae Tucker Ellis. He was a graduate of R.E.Hunt High School, Mary Holmes College, and East Mississippi Community College and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was formerly employed with Cable One and was a member of Prairie Chapel M.B. Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Ann Chapman, Carrie Mae Elliss Foard, Josie Ellis Morgan and Julius Ellis.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Gandy; sister, Geraldine Ellis Jones; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie Chapman Jr., Kenyon Lamarr Ellis, Darren Morgan, Terry Green, Stanley Tucker and Arvis Lawson.
