COLUMBUS — Sidney Lamar Thompson Jr., 70, died Oct. 29, 2025, at his residence. 

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Curtis Chapel Cemetery in Oktibbeha County, with the Rev. Mike Dalton officiating. Visitation will be from 10-10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory of Columbus is in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Thompson was born Jan. 30, 1955, in Columbus, to Mary Blankenship Thompson and the late Sidney Lamar Thompson Sr. He was a graduate of Caldwell High School and attended East Mississippi Community College in Scooba. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was formerly employed with Kerr McGee. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Courtney Renee Thompson of Columbus; brothers, Kenny Thompson of Columbus and Glenn Thompson of Lebanon, Tennessee; sisters, Dr Teresa Thompson and Mary Helen Hawkins, both of Columbus; and grandchildren.
