COLUMBUS — Sherman Edwin Ames, 75, died Sept. 6, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Zion Gate M.B. Church, with James A. Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Lee-Sykes Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ames was born Sept. 21, 1949, in Columbus, to the late Sam Sr. and Castella Harris Ames. He was a 1967 graduate of R.E. Hunt High School and a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He was formerly employed as a project manager.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Annette Gibs, Gloria Jean Morgan, Charles Ames, Vincent T. Ames and Sam Ames Jr.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Sean M. Perkins and Erica Ames; and siblings, Elizabeth Dear of Kankakee, Illinois, Julia Ann Branson and Willie L. Ames, both of Chicago.
