WEST POINT — Sanders Matthews, 70, died Aug. 10, 2025, at his residence. 

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, at Union Start Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, at Carter’s Mortuary Services. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Matthews was born Aug. 30, 1954, in Clay County, to Mack Henry White and Georgia Lee Dupree. He was formerly employed as a supervisor at Allied Metal. 

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shawan Matthews; brothers, Tommie Lee Matthews, Carey Williams Matthews and James Matthews Jr.; and sisters, Ruthie Sherrod and Lucille Blair. 

He is survived by his sons, Sanders Carson, Thomas Carson, Clemmie Matthews and Keonta Carson; daughter, Shawna Carson; brother, Johnny Matthews; sisters, Shirley Matthews, Jettie Collins, Rosie Matthews, Mary Edwards and Flora Henderson; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
