Samuel Bankhead Jones, 92, of Columbus, MS, passed away on May 6, 2026, at Trinity Assisted Living.
The visitation will be on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 12:00 PM. until 1:00 PM. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Bro. Jordan Lollar officiating. Burial will follow at Ethelsville Baptist Church Cemetery. Lowndes Funeral Home is entrusted with all arrangements.
Mr. Jones was born on Jan 18, 1934, in Pickens County Al, Ethelsville to the late Bankhead Jones Sr. and Effie Mae Jones (Bobo). He was married to Bobbie Ann Jones (Laing) for 72 years. He was a member of Ethelsville Baptist Church in Ethelsville, Alabama. He was a graduate of Liberty High School class of 1952. Sam spent 22 years in the Air Force, traveling to three (3) foreign countries and four (4) different bases in the United States. After retirement, he worked in car sales starting out at Crowder Chevrolet then became an owner of Columbus Nissan and several small car lots around Columbus. In retirement, he focused on gardening and was known for the beautiful tomatoes he grew and maintained until recent years.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Holman.
He is survived by sons, Samuel R. (Dianne) Jones and Michael K. (Sandra) Jones; grandchildren, Chris (Amanda) Jones, Scott (Holly) Jones, Mary Ann (Randy) King, Ashton (Scott) Martin, Jylian (Gage) Hicks, Luke (Sandy) Holman, Laura Lee Holman, Bo Bryson and Brady Bryson; great-grandchildren, Paige Martin, Cohen Martin, Adam King, Abigail King, Gavin Elliot, Cameron Elliot, Tristan Roberts, Madison Lowery, Acacia Park, Michigan Jones, Scotti Ann Jones, Ruth Jones, Benjamin Jones and Mary Jones; great-great-grandchildren, Rhylee Roberts, Bexley Allred, Laramine Roberts, Emmerie Lowery, Rials Lowery and Everleigh Lowery, Hudson Bryson; and two sisters- Gloria Harris and Melissa Long.
Pallbearers will be Charles Tilley, Scott Jones, Chris Jones, Luke Holman, Gage Hicks, Shawn Harris and Reed Long.
