CRAWFORD — Robert Earl “R.E.” Smith Jr., 56, died June 8, 2026, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Charity Mission Full Gospel Baptist Church, with Bobby L. McCarter Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Turner Hairston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Friday at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 29, 1969, in Brooksville, to Mary Louise Hairston Smith and the late Robert Earl Smith Sr. He was a 1987 graduate of Motley High School and was formerly employed with Red Cap.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Jean Smith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Darius Antonio Smith of Columbus; and siblings, Casey James Smith Sr. and Timmie Terrell Smith Sr., both of Crawford, Lowanda Reniece Smith of Columbus, and Shanitra Shanta Harris of Crowley, Texas.

Pallbearers are Dennis Brooks, Rufus Harris, Daniel Brewer, Detrick Barnett, Antonio Smith, Temila Thomas, Quinton Tate and Joshun Tate.
