Ray Timm

Ray B. Timm, known to many as “Coach,” passed away at the age of 90, Oct. 9, 2025, following a brief illness.
Ray was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 25, 1935, to Charles and Edith Timm. He attended and graduated from Little Rock, AR, Central High School. An avid swimmer, he set several state high school swimming records. Ray attended and graduated from Northwestern State College in Louisiana. He was a 4-year letterman with the NSC Demons swim team.
Ray served in the U. S. Army with the Modern Pentathlon Team. He also served in the U. S. Marine Corps.
Ray moved to Columbus in the early sixties and married Nancy Pennington in 1965. During his life in Columbus, he worked in several fields including coaching, education, insurance, and driving a school bus.
Ray is predeceased by his parents and wife, Nancy.
He is survived by his brother, Danny (Cheryl) Timm of Elizabethtown, KY; and his nephew, William Timm of Valparaiso, IN.
Per Ray’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. It was his wish to be cremated with a private service and internment at a family plot in Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Columbus YMCA in his name.
