Ralph Baines, 79, of Millport, AL passed away Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, Columbus, MS. A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at 2 PM at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church with Elder James Pugh officiating. Mr. Baines was born October 12, 1932, in Millport, AL to the late Charlie William and Mertie Lee Hall Baines. He was a native of California from 1958 until he moved back to Millport, AL in 2009. Mr. Baines retired in 1994 from U.S. Steel, where he worked as a crane operator for forty years. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Baines is also preceded in death by his wife, Marion Bobbie Jean Baines; sisters – Elma Lou Jones, Mildred Burlin and Lula Mae Baines; brothers – Doyle Baines, William Baines and Davis Baines. He is survived by his wife of 32 years – Mary Haight Baines, Millport, AL; son – Larry Ralph Baines, Antioch, CA; daughters – Patricia Ann McBrien, Cave Creek, AZ and Helen Jean Baines, Clovis, CA; stepson – Paul Edward Lawson, Northport, CA; sisters – Betty Baines, Vernon, AL and Charlean Watkins, Hamilton, MS; brother – Wayne Baines, Millport, AL; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
