Pamela Dene Johnson Whitney, age 75, of Columbus, MS, passed away August 4, 2025, at her residence.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church with Dr. James Shull officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation
will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at Grace Baptist Church. Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Whitney was born February 15, 1950, in Columbus, MS, to the late George Harvey and Mary Nell Jones Johnson. She was a graduate of Lee High School and the Mississippi University for Women. Mrs. Whitney was a teacher of English, literature, and a librarian in the public and private schools of Columbus and Lowndes County. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she led the music and choir for a number of years. She was an enthusiast about theatre and drama, was an avid reader, and had a rare sense of humor. Mrs. Whitney was a pianist, and enjoyed needle point, crocheting, cooking, dogs, and antiques.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Charles A. Whitney of Columbus, MS; son, Chris Whitney and his wife, Jamie of Caledonia, MS; daughter, Laura Kate Whitney of Charleston, SC; and grandchildren, Aidan Whitney of Charlottesville, VA, Elliott Claire Whitney of Caledonia, MS, Grey Harlos of Charleston, SC, and Dean Harlos of Charleston, SC.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Cyr, Matt Cyr, John Fields and Johnathan Miner.
