Obediah Whooper

NOXUBEE COUNTY — Obediah “Lue” Whooper, 72, died March 29, 2026, at Hospital Sanctuary Tupelo.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Carter’s Funeral Services, with Alexander Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Hill M.B. Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Carter’s Funeral Services of Macon is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Whooper was born March 5, 1954, in Noxubee County, to the late Shad Whooper and Matilda Whooper. He was a member of Zion Hill M.B. Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Gholston, Bonnie Singleton, Jeanette Diggs, Shad Whooper Jr., Paul James Whooper and Sammie L. Whooper.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Lue Whooper of Lafayette, Georgia; children, Willie Chandler of Chicago, Illinois, Devonna Barnes of Carol Streams, Illinois, Lavar Barnes of Ellen, Illinois, and Daryn Barnes of Flossmoor, Illinois; siblingings, Ruther Hill of County Club Hill, Illinois, Annette Prince, Belinda Whooper-Morris, Bobby Whooper, all of Columbus, Thertha Whooper, Leonard Whooper, both of Carol Streams and Willie whooper of Bellwood, Illinois; and eight grandchildren.
