CEDAR BLUFF — Michael “Durrell” Jones Sr., 79, died June 29, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at New Montpelier Baptist Church, with Rubel West, Gary Brock and Michael D. Jones Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 Wednesday at Calvert Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones was born Dec. 30, 1945, in Choctaw County, to the late Ethridge Durwood and Sarah Josephine Wise Jones. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War, and was formerly employed as a master fabricator with Babcock and Wilcox. He was a member of New Montpelier Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Merilyn Gallaher; and siblings, Catherine Beaird, Kenneth and Billy Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Merian Jones of Cedar Bluff; son, Michael D. Jones Jr. of Starkville; siblings, Diane Jones Whitehead of Columbus, Frances Jones Rushing of Eupora, Glenn Jones of Gulfport, and Bobby Jones of Ruskin, Florida; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Pate, Dexter Pate, Jeremy Brock, Jim Murray, Allen Morgan and Steven Beaird.
