COLUMBUS — Maurice Colbert, 61, died Sept. 29, 2025, at his residence. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Pleasant Grove Full Gospel Baptist Church, with Timothy Bourne officiating. Burial will follow at Cox Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Friday, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Colbert was born May 17, 1964, in Columbus, to Catherine Cox Colbert and the late Charlie Will Colbert. He was a graduate of Motley High School and attended Warner Enterprise truck driving school. He was formerly employed as an over-the-road truck driver at Warner Enterprise. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Full Gospel Baptist Church. 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Debra Colbert Mixon. 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Jonathan Howell of Southaven; sister, Felecia Martin of Nashville, Tennessee; brother, Omar Colbert of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and two grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be Durell Logan, Jimmie Moore, Curtis Embry, Kunta Pernell, Mitchell Williams, Javon Shaffer, Jamarcus Bradshaw and Ant Tallie.
