VERNON, Ala. — Mary Frances Cantrell, 81, died Oct. 3, 2025, at her residence.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Monday, at Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with B.J. Mills and Carlos Dean officiating. Graveside services will follow at Wofford Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Chandler Funeral Home of Vernon is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cantrell was born April 30, 1944, to the late Charley “Buster” and Adell Herron Merchant. She was formerly employed as an assembly line worker with Chromalox.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty Cantrell; and siblings, Rollie Herron, Gerald Merchant and Mary Jo Gilmer.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Stockman of Vernon; siblings, Sible Thomas, Helen Cantrell and Pud Merchant; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Leslie Carr, Jeff Carr, Tony Merchant, Randy Thomas, Peter Davis and John Brandom.
