COLUMBUS — Mary Ann Spencer “Poosey” Beckwith, 79, died Jan. 9, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.    Saturday, at St. John M.B. Church, with Gilbert Spencer officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Friday, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements. 

Mrs. Beckwith was born Sept. 7, 1946, in Columbus, to the late Willie B. Williams and Katie Lee Johnson Williams. She was formerly employed at Beneke Corp and was a member of St. John M.B. Church and Brownridge M.B. Church. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie James Beckwith; brothers, John Williams, Billy Coleman, Jeff Evans and Gilbert Evans; and sisters, Frankie Mae Clabon, Annie Louise Spencer and Bessie Will Williams. 

She is survived by her children, Dr. Gilbert Spencer, Katie Spencer, Robert Spencer, Levon Campbell and MacArthur Spencer; brother, Willie Williams; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be Demetrick Hall, Jamocko Moore, Kenny Play, Joe Williams, Derrick Harris, Kenneth Cheeks, Terry Green and Walter Williams.
