CALEDONIA — Marc Lawrence Cates, 73, died Feb. 3, 2026, at his residence. 

Funeral services will be held at a later date. Lowndes Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Cates was born June 8, 1952, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Herbert U. Cates and Mary Evelyn Cates. He attended Holland High School and was a graduate of the United States Military Academy. He was a veteran of the United States military.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Cates. 

He is survived by his children, Catherine Jackson of Edmonds, Washington, Joseph Cates of Portland, Oregon, and Samuel Cates of Los Gatos, California; siblings, Lynn Cates and Laurel Cates; and five grandchildren.
