Lois Mason Burr Vincent
Date of notice: June 22, 2026
On Friday, June 19, 2026, Lois Marie Mason Burr Vincent peacefully passed away at Thornapple Manor in Hastings, Michigan.
Born on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928, to Harvey and Ollie Mason in Columbus, Mississippi, Lois lived a remarkable life spanning nearly a century.
Lois moved to Hastings, Michigan as a young woman and lived the rest of her life there. She was married to Ernie Burr of Hastings for 37 years and to Charles Vincent of Hastings for 21 years.
She was employed at Hastings Manufacturing and was a loyal employee for many years until her retirement. Lois’ faith was of upmost importance to her. She was a member of Hasting Free Methodist Church where she and Charles faithfully attended until she was homebound, and they began home worship with Jimmy Swaggart on TV along with Sunday morning Bible studies together.
Having no biological children of her own and being the oldest of 14 children, Lois was a motherly figure to her younger siblings, nieces and nephews. She had a heart of gold, with fierce love and equally fierce opinions.
She was always ready with advice you didn’t know you needed. She took immense pride in looking her absolute best and even though she had an overflowing wardrobe, clothes shopping was first on her list during her family visits to Mississippi. She loved Southern food and couldn’t wait to enjoy butterbeans, purple hull peas, fried potatoes, cornbread and sweet tea. She took great pride in her yard with her beautiful roses and flowers. She delighted in springtime and always talked about her beautiful yard when calling her family back home. Among her proudest milestones were earning her GED and learning to play the piano later in life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 37 years, Ernie Burr; her husband of 21 years, Charles Vincent; her siblings, Martha Vaughn, Myrtie Honeycutt, Margie McRae, Frances Cooper, Jack Mason, Doris Petty, Inez Harcrow and James Mason.
She is survived by her siblings, Bill Mason (Maxine), Margaret Baucom (Leslie), Rufus Mason (Jane), Thelma Strickland, and Christine Perrigin (Roger); sister-in-law, Debra Mason; and brother-in-law, Tommy Vaughn, all of Columbus, Mississippi; her step-sons, Bill Burr (Eileen), Jim Burr, and Larry Vincent (Rhonda); and her lifelong friends, Hillis and Nancy Lepard of Hastings. Her legacy lives on through her many loving nieces and nephews, as well as her step-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Daniels Funeral Home located at 1401 North Broadway, Hastings, Michigan. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2026, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and services following at 11:00 a.m. Guests are invited to remain at the funeral home for a funeral luncheon and a time of fellowship after the service followed by the interment at Barryville Cemetery in Nashville, MI.
