COLUMBUS — John Everett Stockton Sr., 81, died May 27, 2026, at his residence.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Vaughn’s Cemetery, with the Rev. Kevin Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 10-10:30 a.m. prior to services at Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stockton was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Gastonia, North Carolina, to the late Everett Lee and Monnie Peeler Stockton. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam. He was formerly employed as a housing quality control inspector with the Columbus Air Force Base and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Paulette Hawkins Stockton; and sisters, Ann Stockton Dawkins and Kay Stockton Parkhurst.

He is survived by his children, John Stockton Jr. and Tammy Stockton, both of Columbus; and brothers, Danny Stockton of Detroit, Michigan, and Mike Stockton of Gastonia, North Carolina.
