John Lewis Kellum age 72, passed away peacefully June 2, 2026, at Heritage Manor in Slidell, LA.
A memorial service will be held Saturday June 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Glenn Miller officiating; burial with U.S. Marine honors will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Lewis was born on July 26, 1953, in Columbus, the youngest of four children and the only son of John Butler Kellum, and Fan Atkins Kellum.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Marcia Kellum; nephew, John Matthews; III and brothers-in-law, Jack Matthews and Bill Harris.
At 18 years old Lewis joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served active duty from 1971-1975 when he was honorably discharged. He retired as a long haul truck driver. Lewis enjoyed traveling the US, meeting new people, and developing friendships with other drivers. Afterward, Lewis enjoyed following MSU football, Atlanta Braves Baseball and the New Orleans Saints. He watched TV shows about car auctions, life in Alaska and westerns. For years his puppy dog, Remy, was with him.
Lewis is survived by his son John Lewis Kellum, II, grandsons, Jude and Jadon Kellum, sisters, Delores Kellum Matthews, and Karen Kellum Harris, brother-in-law Donnie Pate, numerous nephews and nieces as well as great nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank the physicians and medical staff who cared for Lewis.
