COLUMBUS — Ret. Master Sergeant (R-15) John J. Harris, 61, died Sept. 7, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at Noxubee County High School, with the Rev. Montrell Rucker officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill M.B. Church in Macon. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Macon is in charge of arrangements. 

Ret. Master Sergeant (R-15) Harris was born Dec. 20, 1963, in Vicksburg, to Connie Lee Davis and the late James Harris. He was a graduate of Cickeburg High School and Hinds Community College. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was formerly employed with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and supervisor of the local Mississippi Department of Motor Vehicle. 

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Kimyata Harris; and children, John J. Harris Jr. and Laquanda Gates, both of Tupelo; sister, Stephanie Harris of Springfield, Illinois; brothers, James Harris of Greenville and Homer Harris of Springfield; and one grandchild.
