LILBURN, Ga. — John Demetrius Colister Sr., 77, died Nov. 10, 2025, at his residence. 

Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, at Fourth Street M.B. Church, with Jimmy Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Tuesday, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Colister was born Aug. 15, 1948, in Artesia, to the late Charlie Colister and Annie Lee Colister. He was formerly employed at Argonne National Laboratory and was a member of United Christian Baptist Church. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Johnson; siblings, Charlie Colister Jr., Ananias Big David Colister, Charlene Colister and Jennie Moore. 

He is survived by his wife, Alma Colister; children, John Colister Jr., David A. Colister and Merchant Johnson; siblings, Freddie Lee Colister, Bobby Lee Colister, George Colister, Willie Lee Coloster and Eddie Colister; seven grandchildren; and three grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be John Colister Jr., David A. Colister, Aaron Colister, Craig McKinstry, Jeremiah Colister, Terrell Colister and Leon Sykes.
