VERNON, Ala. — Joe Washington, 88, died Aug. 5, 2025.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Willie Nell Johnson-Degraeffenried officiating. Graveside services followed at Furnace Hill. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Chandler Funeral Home of Vernon was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Washington was born Feb. 2, 1937, in Vernon, to the late James Washington and Stella Enoch Sykes. He was formerly employed with Hyster Company and was a member of Vernon Chapel C.M.E. Church.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Washington; daughters, Debra Jenkins and Elixabeth Washington; siblings, Johnny Sykes and Clara Sykes; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
