Jimmy was born and spent the early part of his childhood in Texas. His family moved to Starkville when he was in elementary school and in 1953 Jimmy graduated from Starkville High School. Upon his graduation he joined the army and was stationed in Italy where he bought a finely made camera, one built to last a lifetime, which he used to capture treasured memories even until recent years.
After serving his country and returning to Starkville, Jimmy worked as a carpenter for 32 years for Mississippi State University in the Physical Plant. He was a member of the Starkville Bass Club, winning many trophies in bass tournaments. Upon his retirement, he was able to spend more time enjoying his favorite hobbies camping, bass fishing, gardening, and going to Gospel singings. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman who loved John Deere tractors and mowing.
The most important thing in Jimmy’s life was his faith in Jesus Christ. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Starkville where he sang bass in the choir. He was also a faithful member of the Johnston-Bain Sunday School Class at First Baptist.
