SHUQUALAK — Chaplain Jesse Walton Moore, 91, died Jan. 9, 2026, at Ochsner Rush Medical Center in Meridian.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at the former Shuqualak Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Eaves Cemetery in the Calyx Community. Visitation is from 12:30-2 p.m. prior to services at the church. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moore was born Oct. 22, 1934, in the Calyx Community near Shuqualak, to the late Walton and Vera Knight Moore. He was a graduate of Millsaps College, Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and Northern Colorado University. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War and as First Brigade Chaplain of the First Air Cavalry Division. He was formerly employed with Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, Methodist Health Systems, and West Cancer Clinic.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Marc Moore; and brothers, Billy and Jimmy Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Bennett; daughter, Suzanne Moore of Shuqualak; stepchildren, Bradley Bennett of Amherst, Massachusetts, and Lindsay Page; brother, John Moore of Pelahatchie; one grandchild; one step-grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
