MACON — Jerry L. “Bait” Smith, 63, died July 12, 2025, at UAB-St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Millers Chapel M.B. Church, with the Rev. Nathaniel Ron Houston Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mayhan Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. Friday at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Macon is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 23, 1961, in Macon, to Eva Kate Smith and the late Charles Earl Smith. He was formerly employed with Tom Sawyer Grain Company and was a member of Mt. Carmel M.B. Church.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lester Smith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Jeremiah Short of Houston, Texas, and Jayberella Davidson of Columbus; siblings, Linda Gilkey of Macon, Charles Smith and Willie Smith, both of Atlanta, Georgia, and Christine Mays of Orlando, Florida; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Danyell Lockett, Henri Singleton, Ferlandis Windham, Quantaveous King, Roderick McNeese and Tedrick Liddell.
