COLUMBUS — Jean King Simpson Sarsgard, 98, died July 1, 2025, at Trinity Healthcare Center.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at First United Methodist Church in West Point, with the Rev. Chad Bowen officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sarsgard was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Yalobusha County, to the late Benjamin Franklin King and Lois Easley King. She was formerly employed with Sears store in West Point and as a switchboard operator, medical insurance handler and medical coder with Ivy Memorial Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Courtney Simpson and Dale Sarsgard; and siblings, Carmon King, Doris King, Gladys King Thweat and Ruby King Taylor.
She is survived by her children, Cathy Simpson Pilkinton of Water Valley, John Sarsgard of Connecticut, and Jim Sarsgard of Derby, England, United Kingdom; sister, Jerry King Jenkins of Water Valley; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Pilkinton, Dale Stafford, Kenny Taylor, Tim Taylor, Gordon Simpson and Louie Riddick.
