VERNON, Ala. — Janet Morris Benton, 84, died Aug. 2, 2025.

Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Thursday, at First Baptist Church of Vernon, with Brandon Phillips, Keith Pennington and Luke Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Lamar Memory Gardens. Visitation is two hours prior to services at the church. Chandler Funeral Home of Vernon is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Benton was born Jan. 3, 1941, in Winfield, Alabama, to the late Azzie and Lea Morris. She was formerly employed as a bank teller at the Bank of Vernon and was co-founder and co-operator of Benton & Company and Henry’s Car Wash. She also served as director of Wee Wisdom Day Care and was a member of First Baptist Church of Vernon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Winston Benton; and siblings, Marlyse Reed, Jimmie Lou Pierce and Grant Morris.

She is survived by her daughters, Gina Robertson and Jennifer Pennignton, both of Vernon; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Scott King, Michael Matthews, Witten Matthews, Nathan Foster, Luke Pennington and Brett Murry.
