COLUMBUS — James Lee Turner, 87, died Oct. 4, 2013, at his residence. Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. James MB Church with the Rev. Chad Payton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is today from 3-8 p.m. at Carter’s of Columbus. Mr. Turner was born Sept. 9, 1926, to the late Tom Turner and Lucy Turner. He was formerly employed with Beneke Corp. and was a member of St. James MB Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jerry Turner Sr., Tommy Turner, Sam Turner, Robert Wilkins Jr., Silas Turner, Willie Turner, T.C. Turner, Katie Foster and Mary Ella Turner. Survivors include his wife, Mamie Turner of Columbus; children, Jessie Kincade, Willa Calloway, Goldie Smith, Eddie Turner, Beulah Evans and Willie Turner, all of Columbus, Tommie Turner of Dazell, S.C., Gloria Christian of Wichita, Kan., James Howard Turner of Stockbridge, Ga., Frank Turner of Ellenwood, Ga., Cynthia sanders of Madison, Ala., and Carolyn Stills of San Diego; siblings, john Henry Turner, George Turner and Isaac Turner, all of Columbus; 31 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are George Turner Jr., Larry Turner, Johnny Stevenson, Clark Turner, Charles Newman and Bernard Turner.
